New Census Schedules on Ancestry.com

Have a farmer in the family? In the recently updated collection of U.S. Federal Census Non–Population Schedules, you’ll find details about plenty of farmers as well as businesses, the recently departed, and more. Non–population schedules were taken in conjunction with the 1850–1880 federal censuses, and each of these supplementary schedules went a step beyond the traditional, population census to provide key details about farming and industry, mortality, incarceration and institutionalization, slavery, veterans, and more. Learn more about what you can find in each schedule in our article Non–Population Options.

What We Found:

A Handful of Missing 1880 Details

You know what happened to the 1890 census (in case you didn’t know, it was a fire that destroyed more than 99 percent of it), but what if your family was absent from 1880, too? For people with family living in a handful of townships in Tioga County, New York, in 1880, that was exactly the case: their federal census records were missing. Discover how Ancestry.com found those missing census records and where you can search them today.

U.S. Federal Census Mortality Schedules, 1850–1885 — UPDATED (CA, ME)

Mortality schedules include details of deaths that occurred during the 365 days leading up to a census; this update adds California and Maine mortality schedules to 35 state mortality schedules already available at Ancestry.com. More than 18,000 names are included in the California schedules; another 45,000 make up Maine’s. U.S. World War II Fourth Registration Draft Cards,

1942 — UPDATED (ID, OR)

Ancestry.com World War II draft registration cards now include two more states, Idaho and Oregon. Covering the fourth registration – the “old man’s” draft – the collection includes men born between 1877 and 1897. While these registrants weren’t called to active duty, their cards are still full of personal details including address, employer, physical description, and more. 1880 United States Federal Census — UPDATED

We consider it a lucky find, this small collection of U.S. Federal Census records. Covering just a handful of townships in New York and Virginia, these records had somehow been mixed in with the 1880 non–population schedules. It’s only when Ancestry.com set out to digitize and index the non–population schedules that these surprise population census forms surfaced as well. They’re now included in their rightful place with the 1880 U.S. Federal Census at Ancestry.com. Search now.

MY STORY

A Box of Photos and a Pile of Dust Finds Its Way Home

One evening in 1991, I was leaving my local library when I ran into Eileen, a cousin of my father’s. Eileen had always been a bit intimidating to me as a child, but late in life she met and married the most wonderful man, Louis, and she blossomed. On this rainy night she asked what seemed like a strange favor: would my sisters and I help her with Louis? He was much older than she was and she was beginning to worry that she might need a hand with him. They had no children, she had no siblings, and we knew of no other relatives of his. I told her of course we’d help.

Two weeks later, Eileen called my mother for a ride to the doctor’s – Eileen was too ill to drive. Eileen was diagnosed with cancer and died within a few months.

After Louis and Eileen were gone, I helped clean out their belongings. That’s when I came across a box of old photos and letters of Eileen and Louis’s. When I saw a photo of them together, I tucked everything under my arm and took it home. They had no family to give it to, I wasn't even sure who all of it belonged to, but I couldn’t part with it. My mom told me it would only collect dust, and it was better to throw it all out. But I didn’t. It felt like their stories truly would end if I ever threw this away.

I put the box away and let it collect dust.

Recently, I contacted a woman through a “Hint” I received on my Ancestry.com family tree. Louis, it turned out, was this woman’s actual uncle. Her father was Louis’s brother and because I had included Eileen and Louis in my family tree, she and I were now connected. After I filled her in on their deaths and how much they were missed, I remembered that box of papers and pictures. The day I put the package in the mail to her I had a little ache about saying goodbye to Eileen and Louis again, but I was completely joyful that those photos and letters had finally found their way home.

Wicca Online Community For Pagans and Wiccans

A message to all members of Wicca Online Community For Pagans and Wiccans

Hello everyone,

Your friendly neighbourhood administrator Lady here to ask everyone as a community to give me a hand, I would like to make this short and sweet, as you will be getting two separate subject mass emails today.

As a recent brainstorm for my community makeover - I thought that by putting more things in the site store that people would like to buy, or that people frequently buy would be a good way to cater to the community. Better prices, and a place the consumer can trust.

So I would like you all, as a part of our community, to please give us suggestions as to things you buy frequently, are looking for or would think that others would benefit from having handy. I put a thread recently, and it didn't get too much attention before it scrolled off the main thread marquee. So to get a little more site wide participation, from people who don't even visit the forums even - I would like to ask you to take a moment sometime and give us a suggestion.

http://www.wiccantogether.com/forum/topics/site-store-suggestions

It will be greatly appreciated and we will try to make a list compilation of all the things, and try to implement them into the store. Your voice will be heard!

Thank you ahead of time to those who are going to contribute, and thank you to those who have visited our humble little site store. We appreciate all of our members, and want to make WT an ever-evolving place for the better.

Blessings to you and yours.

Subject: Angelic Connetions,

The air supporting the wings of an angel

is the breathe of a wispher of gods love .

At the centre of all creation is love-in the rain , the earth, the petal of a flower, the fur of a kitten , the wing of a bee.

Love is in the sleeping face of a child, the song of a blackbird,

the twinkling of a star,

Love is the roar of the ocean as it crashes on the shore.

The delicate intricacy of a snowflake; the lightness of a feather ,

Love is in the whisper, the whistle, the rustle, the rush, the streanth and the power of the wind.

The same wind that fuels a tornado also gently caresses your face in the breeze.

The wind that gives support beneath the wings of an angel.

your wings too.

Subject: Notice regarding the NING network.

As some members may be aware "Occult Connections" here on Facebook was a creation to promote the social network hosted by Ning. However recently its come to light that Ning will slowly be phasing out its free service as of July this year. Ning's new services require monthly payments from owners of networks. Unfortunately there is no free service available to continue hosting the group there.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. The Facebook group for Occult Connections has been far more successful then other attempts, and is far more user friendly for members. And so it has been decided that as of July this group will be the official "social network" for Occult Connections.

In short, as of July the Ning network based on this group will more then likely be closed and become obsolete. I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused for the small number of users who have taken the time to visit and sign up. I hope for the very best for this group, and that it continues to grow and that we can all learn from one another in a positive way.

Peace, Love, Light and many Blessings.

God wants sprirtual fruits not religious nuts !

Fanaticisum and dogma are not enlightening. is it not better to gently sow the seeds of wisdom and love into areas of strife ,

Allowing them to grow in their own time ?

You are on your own spiritual journey , and are always in the right place at the right time, even though the decisions you make may affect progress at times.

Don't be afraid that someone else may seem 'more spiritual' then you .

Your light is just as bright; don't be affaid to let it shine.

There is nothing 'spiritual' or enlightening about imposing one's intellectual truth on someone else. all the great masters taught in simple parables and stories that made their teachings accessible to all levels of understanding .

How motivating and inspiring it can be to share ideas with like-minded people whe are now harvesting the fruits of their own maturity .

From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wiccan

This week, we're talking about whether or not a high school anti-drinking assembly is in violation of the separation of church and state -- because the message relies heavily on conversion and prayer. Also, the city of San Diego will no longer lease park land to the Boy Scouts, because a judge says the BSA is a religious organization. Also, over in India, the English language is given divine status. Finally, the Nashville Pagan community mourns the loss of one of their own, and you can help those affected by the recent floods. Have a magical week, and watch for Friday's special edition of the newsletter, when we'll talk about Pagan networking!

Do High School Assemblies Violate Establishment Clause?

Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) has sent a letter to the Todd Becker Foundation, a religious group that holds evangelistic rallies during the school day in public schools, and says the group may be held legally liable for violating the Constitution. The Todd Becker Foundation hosts programs in Nebraska's public high schools, ostensibly to warn students about the dangers of drunk driving. However, the programs are heavy on... Read more

Be sure to update your section teasers, section descriptions and product descriptions. Work in those important keywords for Father's Day. Tip: Focus on less competitive terms. "Father's Day Gifts" may seem like an obvious choice, but there's a lot of competition out there for that term. Try to go after 2nd tier terms instead. Some examples include: Gifts for fathers day, fathers day gift ideas, fathers day baskets, unique fathers day gifts, fathers day crafts.

Dad's Favorite Products

Make sure you feature all of Dad's faves, like Dark T-shirts (our top Dad's Day seller), mugs, and Sigg⁚ water bottles.

Create a special Father's Day section

Use premium shop search to link together all of your designs (in a single store), with a specific tag. For example, string together all of the designs that you've tagged "Fathers Day" by creating a link that looks like this: www.cafepress.com/yourshopid/s_fathers-day

Wow. What color is that T-shirt?

We're celebrating Spring with a fun color swap. Due to popular demand and to keep things fresh, we've add new colors while some other colors have been removed. Be sure to let your customers know of the fun new hues. Learn more.

New way to create shops.

We've just announced a fun (and simple) new way to create shops. Now folks can add a shop in just a minute or two. In a nutshell, you type in your interest (like, "Gunner's Soccer") while setting up the shop. We then automatically populate your shop with relevant, templated designs featuring the interest you typed in. Plus it's now easier to upload your logos and such. Read the announcement to learn more or visit http://shops.cafepress.com to check it out.

Henry Louis Gates Partners With Archives to Promote African Heritage

Hi char,

In our continuing mission to make family history simple & affordable, we are excited to announce that Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr has joined Archives.com as an official Advisor. As the Director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard University, and host of PBS's "Faces of America", Professor Gates is a leading authority in the field of African American Studies.

Researching African family history can be very challenging. Many traditional research options such as census records, recorded only limited details of African descendants - or none at all. Professor Gates brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for African Heritage. He will work closely with Archives.com to provide the tools and resources needed to learn about your family's history, and even trace your roots back to Africa.

"African American genealogy has been under-served for many years. But thanks to new advances in DNA sequencing and companies like Archives.com, the past has opened up like never before," says Professor Gates. "Archives.com is making family history easy and affordable for the everyday person. The site offers a rich interface and access to an abundance of records, images, and stories about the past."

In the coming months we'll be adding lots of additional resources, as well publishing some unique African American historical collections that have never before been available online. To learn more about how Henry Louis Gates Jr and Archives.com are partnering to make African American family history research simple & affordable, visit the new African Heritage section of Archives.com.

At Archives.com, we’re constantly adding records, tools and resources to help you explore your family history. Some recent additions include:

Access over 1.2 billion records – including records from UK and Canada

Millions of scanned census & vital images - verify family members & details

Easy-to-use family tree tools creates a visual picture of your family

On-Site Records Search helps your find records that aren’t available online

Our Ancestor Alerts notify you when we find new records for your ancestors

Archives.com offers all these benefits and more for only $39.95 per year. That’s over 80% less expensive than the leading family history website! And with our 7-day free trial, you can try all these membership benefits risk-free.

We look forward to helping you learn more about your roots!
