I have to tel you I love U2 and Bono is a guru!
Bono's Lyrics All About God, Says Vatican

We all knew Bono existed on a higher plane to the rest of us mere mortals. After all, what other explanation can there be for a 49-year-old man with a predilection for cowboy hats and wearing sunglasses indoors being given a serious hearing by so many of the world's political and religious leaders?

But now it seems the spiritual qualities of U2's recorded output have been given the thumbs up by the Pope himself.(Well, by a couple of degrees of separation, at least).

L'Osservatore Romano, the semi-official newspaper of the Vatican, has published an article vouching for the myriad Christian themes in Bono's lyrics. The piece quotes Italian music critic Andrea Morandi arguing that, while the biblical allusions in early U2 albums like 'Boy' and 'October' are well known, references to religion can be found in almost every tune by the Irish rockers, right up to their most recent work.

Thus we can follow Bono's faith from the dogmatism of '40' from 'War' (which rewrites Psalm 40) and 'October''s 'Gloria' (with its Latin chorus) through the uncertainty found in the albums 'Zooropa' and 'Pop' ("full of discussions with God", according to Morandi), right up to the born again reaffirmation of 'Unknown Caller' (Morandi: 'Where the stranger who calls you is the God who saves') from 'No Line on the Horizon'.

'Beautiful Day' , apparently, is about much more than it being a beautiful day. Still, with the Almighty apparently pushing Bono's pen, at least we know who to blame for this particular lyrical atrocity: "A mole / living in a hole / digging up my soul / going down / excavation / I and I / in the sky / you make me feel like I can fly / so high / elevation."

Let us pray.

L'Osservatore, from time to time, shows us why it is a "semi-official" paper. This story, along with a previous one which claimed that the animated T.V. show The Simpsons contains significant philosophical teachings are clear examples of thier semi-adherance to the true teachings of the Church.

An endorsement from the largest religion in the world should be the kiss of death to a supposedly rebelious, rock band. The Pope had to declare to the bishops that "Bono is God" before the singer would accept his praise.

People who like to insult Bono also enjoy jokes that make others look stupid and are generally block headed. I prefer gentle people who don't have to insult others to make themselves feel good. Bono has always been careful not to insult others, too bad others can't give him the same courtesy.

Of course the Vatican loves Bono. They both use other people's money to do their deeds.
I'm tired of Bono coming to the US to tell us how we should spend OUR tax dollars for HIS pet charities.

U2 is one of the greatest bands ever! Bono has said himself that God influences his lyrics. He has also said he has an ego. Everybody needs to understand the words to the songs. U2 writes "superficially" for a reason. The ones who wish to understand the real meaning behind the songs, actually have to think on a deeper level. The ones who are critical of everything Bono does, seem to me are quite jealous! Keep it up U2! You've made a real difference!

U2 Tell the Story Behind 'The Unforgettable Fire' -- Exclusive Video

With the recent 25th anniversary special edition reissue of 1984's 'The Unforgettable Fire,' U2 are stepping back to remember the making of the album. Bono and company employed producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois to help them experiment musically, and while it seemed like an unlikely combination then, their work on 'The Unforgettable Fire' led to a creative breakthrough for the band. It also helped to deliver the lead single 'Pride (In the Name of Love),' which became U2's biggest hit at the time.

In the exclusive interview clip after the jump, U2 discuss Eno, Lanois and Ireland's Slane Castle, where the album was initially recorded. Watch the video to find out how the experience "deconstructed U2" and what the band learned from it.

U2 is without a doubt the greatest rock and roll band ever. Bono, in my opinion is right up there with John Lennon as a song writer. In fact I give Bono the edge. His lyrics and body of work is unmatched.

The Unforgettable Fire has always been my favorite work by the band. God Bless Bono, The Edge, Larry, and Adam. Peace and Love to all.

Bono Takes on File Sharing, Medicine and More in New York Times Column

Bono has never been afraid to share his opinion. When the New York Times invited the U2 frontman to write a column for the newspaper's Editorials and Opinion page, he was definitely up for the challenge.

With the popularity for "best of" lists at the end of each year (or in 2009's case, decade), Bono decided to make up one of his own. "We have been stuffed full of them," he wrote. "Even in these self-restrained pages, it has been impossible to avoid the end-of-the-decade accountings of the 10 best such-and-suches and the 10 worst fill-in-the-blanks. And so, in the spirit of rockstar excess, I offer yet another."

But instead of looking at the past, Bono decided to whip out his crystal ball and create a list of 10 ideas that he feels "might make the next 10 years more interesting, healthy or civil." Tackling the US auto industry, the environment and even medical discoveries, Bono explains how each can improve while still admitting that he may not be the most knowledgeable about the topics, such as Dr. William Li's research on generating new blood vessels.

Although he gets political, the column also touches on his views of the music industry, especially file sharing. "A decade's worth of music file-sharing and swiping has made clear that people it hurts are the creators," Bono said. "In this case, the young fledgling songwriters who can't live off ticket and T-shirt sales like the least sympathetic among us -- and the people this reverse Robin Hooding benefits are rich service providers, whose swollen profits perfectly mirror the lost receipts of the music business."

Even though the idea of "Peace in the Middle East" may have been reduced to just a witty saying these days, Bono formulated the idea of using a yearly arts festival to bring Judaism, Christianity and Islam together and put host the first one in Jerusalem.

While Bono's optimism reaches new heights in the New York Times article, it'll be interesting to see if any of his ideas will turn into reality or another excuse to bash U2.
