The sacred tree or Tree of Life was a central part of early Celtic spirituality. The sacred Tree of Life represented the fruitfulness of the earth, evoking spiritual growth and rebirth. Trees provided the Celts with a source for basic sustenance. Without trees, life for the Celts would have been difficult. The Celts believed the Tree of Life was rooted in the heart of the earth and that it drank the sacred waters of life. The Tree of Life stretched its branches into the heavens bridging earthly and celestial powers. Every Celtic tribe had its own sacred tree as a symbol of sovereignty, sacred wisdom and spiritual growth.

Dear U2 Fan,

Announced this morning - an eighth and final night in New York City for the band's iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour. Tickets go on sale next Friday but qualifying current subscribers - or new ones - can enter a pre-sale running from Monday to Wednesday next week.

Don't miss Aoife McArdle's powerful film, inspired by 'Every Breaking Wave'.'A perfect little gem of a romance movie,' says filmmaker Spike Jonze.

Aoife also directed the video for 'Every Breaking Wave', the second single from the album. If you love the acoustic version of the song, with added strings, check out Nicole Mackinlay Hahn's video vignette from the Songs Of Innocence Acoustic Sessions.

On the subject of Songs Of Innocence, Bono and Edge talked with Rolling Stone last week, after a survey found U2 were the most-listened to artist during January. 'I think music has become devalued and disposable in the commercial world,' says Edge. 'But not to music lovers or the people who make it, and not all big tech either. ' Read more here.

Finally, did we mention Edge dropping by on 'Feedback Kitchen' host Mario Batali? They talked creativity and songwriting... and shared some very fine food.

best wishes

Lunar Folklore & Legends
The moon is, in terms of distance, the closest heavenly body to earth. We can see it in the sky for three weeks out of four, and people have, for thousands of years, used its light to guide them in the dark. In addition to the personification of the moon as deity, there are all kinds of fascinating legends and mythsassociated with the moon and its cycles.

For thousands of years, people have looked up at the moon and wondered about its divine significance. It should come as no surprise that many cultures throughout time have had lunar deities - that is, gods or goddesses associated with the power and energy of the moon. If you're doing a moon-related ritual, in some traditions of Paganism you may choose to call upon one of these deities for assistance. Let's look at some of the better known lunar deities.

Moon Phases & Magical Workings
For many Pagans, the cycles of the moon are important to magical workings. It's believed in some traditions that the waxing moon, the full moon, the waning moon and the new moon all have their own special magical properties, and so workings should be planned accordingly. If your tradition follows these guidelines -- or if you think you'd like to time your magic based upon the phase of the moon -- here are some tips on what sort of magic to perform during the various lunar stages.
