Dragons are fierce, fire-breathing creatures, but a baby dragon is a different story. There's something huggable about a small, winged dragon with big eyes. They are so cute that you'll want to scoop it up and take it home for a pet.

New post on The Vampire Observer |
|
In previous articles, contributors to the Observer have discussed what makes a leader; we've explored what qualifies certain individuals to be viewed, and utilized, as mentors within the real vampire community. But, on the other hand, what qualities should its opposite possess? As the real vampire community continues to grow larger every year, both online and off, by what standards should it hold its newest members?
Author and founder of Dark Moon Press, Corvis Nocturnum, brings his vast experience with cultures and subcultures to this topic, as he explains what he means by "the lost and unenlightened".
The Lost and Unenlightened
Of all the comments I see on various discussion boards, forums and social media, what stands out to me is the same old thing. The feeling of being alone and different than others of the ‘normal’ world. Is there any such thing? I am not so certain of it, even after years of watching the communities grow by the thousands, whether it be Vampire, Goth or Pagan groups. To the new people I must say I feel a bit for each of them, and from every side of the perspective. You all have different views coming from your own backgrounds which influence how you think, in sociology it is called cultural norms – that is to say, ones background shapes who we are.
When I first came directly into the vampire Community nearly eight years ago, interviewing people for Embracing the Darkness; Understanding Dark Subcultures, I felt a certain degree of kinship to the lost and misguided young people who were Goth, witch or vampire. I'd been ridiculed for years being an outcast years prior and thought these people need a voice and so I began asking questions, adding history and images to educate the general public, law enforcement and, yes, others like these misguided youths to help them find the truth about themselves; to see if perhaps they would leave behind the Twilight stage (no, not the crappy books and films), as it slowly began to grow and evolve. Were we not, some of us, like this once too?
As such, I don't judge them too harshly; I do feel, out of politeness to the members of a group like this, they should read the rules and follow them -- or not enter our part of the world. Manners go a long way in getting guidance that we, Elders and members of the Community alike, can impart to the lost and unenlightened. For us, we know the difference. We are jaded and tired of years of countless people who scorn us in flaming posts, and poor media exploitation for ratings. We're left feeling the losers should pack their bags, and never dare enter groups online unless it is for role-play alone. It is up to us to steer these people in the right direction, once we understand were they are coming from, or simply show them the door. There is, most certainly, a lack of respect for those who have come before, as every newcomer seems to think all they need do is throw on some fangs, take a webcam picture and call themselves Dark Lord Vlad (or some such nonsense); those who have been around for, oh, say a year or less, proclaiming wisdom and experiences to teach others the ‘way’ of the Vampire -- or any other path they might follow. Back in my day (yes, I know that expression instantly paints me as old) one had to learn from others, and not just from a five-minute "instant expert" Google search. No, we spent years reading real books, you know, the kind with paper and ink – and asked a multitude of questions of those who came before us. In The Craft, or in any secret society dating back to the Knights Templar, a new initiate had to profess loyalty and climb the ranks by passing tests before being elevated to new levels. Sound silly in this day age, you say?
In Satanism, to this day, people are promoted by a secret inner council that judges members by not how much ass-kissing they do, but in what they are willing to do in the mundane world with their talents and determination, utilizing the principals of the path, thus proving who and what value they have. Few rise to Warlock, Reverend and fewer still become Magisters. This is called stratification.
How does this apply to the Vampire community, you ask? Simple. Join a coven, house or grotto if you are new. Ask questions and learn. You do not have to stay forever, least of all if you feel you are getting nowhere, but start somewhere, and do not take everything as gospel. The greatest leaders questioned, and were not blind sheep.
Those who feel lost – you are not alone, and you are in good company. For even those who are Elders, we do not truly know all, and if you ever encounter someone who claims they have all the answers, heed my advice and stay away from that person. None of us, Elders included, have all the answers, as we are always on an ongoing quest for self-improvement, which takes learning and experiencing life to do. Anyone who claims otherwise is a fool.

This is a beautiful Samhain Poem ♥
Night of the Dead
By: Angelus Webweaver 2004
Samhain night is finally here.
The veil is thin. The dead are near.
They come to visit us this day.
To share our feast and watch us play.
But nothing do we have to fear,
For they're our ancestors we hold dear.
Their Spirit watches night and day
They see us grow and hear us pray.
They are whom we descended from
And on Samhain night, they're free to come
To visit us and share their pride
In those who they have left behind.
Though they have died and passed beyond
They are still here… they are not gone.
To be remembered is all they want.
They've come to visit… not to haunt
So honor them on Samhain day
Share your feast and let them play.
And let them know throughout the year
That you honor, love, and hold them dear.

SPELL TO KEEP BEAUTY FROM FADING
When all your face appears most fair, When the comets and meteors gild your hair,
And in your eyes the moon and sun Contest, surrender, and burn as one,
When ivory Venus smoothes your brow, And Mars recurves your lips' red bow,
When all your face appears most fair, When the comets and meteors gild your hair,
And in your eyes the moon and sun Contest, surrender, and burn as one,
When ivory Venus smoothes your brow, And Mars recurves your lips' red bow,
Make haste to utter this binding verse And hold the stars on their kindest course...
"Figure of fire,
That shifts and changes,
Planets that move
By heaven's hinge,
Be siged and fixed
Forever here,
And close my image
Within thy sphere"
Measure a yard of golden string Loose from your fingers let it swing,
Then tie it in thirteen sturdy knots, Hide it among your scents and pots.

food & throw it onto the fire. Smoking, drinking the same. For problems which utilize no concrete
objects, draw a symbol or image & burn.
For getting rid of things (like habits, houseguests, etc.), add a bath element.
After your ritual, take a bath in the appropriate herbs/oil.
During the bath, relax and focus on how your life will be without X. Wash X away from you.

Weight Loss Spell: Visualization
Losing weight can be a very daunting task. It can be difficult to keep your motivation at its highest when results do not always come quickly. Motivation and self-discipline are key elements in weight loss and in a weight loss spell as well. Patience is also a very important factor. You will need the following:
1 stick jasmine
incense 1 green candle 1 orange candle 1 red candle 1 gold candle (can be substituted for white if you cannot find a gold one.) A weight loss spell is a lesson in meditation, focus, and self-reflection. On a Waning moon (the day after the Full moon) turn off all the lights and light the incense. Clear your mind completely and do some deep breathing to focus yourself. Place the green candle directly in front you, the red one to your right, the orange one to your left and the gold one halfway between the green and orange candles. What to Do Light the green candle in front of you first; it represents your personal growth. Once it is burning brightly, pause for a few moments and reflect on the positive ways in which your weight loss will affect your life. Will you be more confident? Will you be more mindful of your health? Next, light the red candle on your right and pause again to reflect. The red candle is indicative of passion and your driving force. Ponder on how much you wish to achieve this goal. Conjure up images in your mind of a slimmer and healthier you. Move on to light the orange candle on your left, which represents success. Imagine yourself in situations that hinder your weight loss, such as raiding the refrigerator when you are stressed, then picture yourself avoiding those circumstances by engaging in a different activity, such as going for a walk or reading a book. Lastly, light the gold candle which signifies happiness. As you light the gold candle, try to release any negative self-perceptions you may have with regard to your body. For instance, you can imagine that they are gathering in the pit of your stomach and oozing out of you like a black fog. This can be a very powerful visualization and can truly help you on your journey toward a more positive body image. The more focused thought and reflection you bring to a weight loss spell, the more powerful it can be. As you visualize this fog leaving your body, repeat the following words: My true form lies within, deep within my skin, I beckon thee to appear, Hear my plea, true and clear. When you are done with the visualization, blow out the green candle, followed by the red one, the orange one and then the gold one. Once all the candles have been extinguished, indulge yourself. Take a long, comfortable bath. Adding a few drops of lavender essential oil to the bath water will keep you relaxed and stress-free. Wash your body with care in order to prepare yourself for the coming of your renewed self. Dry yourself, and watch the old body image go down the drain with the bath water. The weight loss spell is complete. |

October 21 - The Slavic Goddess Ursula's Day
Ursula as pre-Christian bear goddess Sabine Baring-Gould in Curious Myths of the Middle Ages (1867) suggests that St Ursula is the Christianised representative of the old Teutonic goddess Freya (Frigg), who, in Thuringia, under the name of Horsel or Ursel, and in Sweden Old Urschel, welcomed the souls of dead maidens. Saint Ursula with her bow and ar
row, her ship and virginal companions, sails up the Rhine as Urschel, the Teutonic moon goddess, sailed before her, with all the graceful attributes of Isis and Diana. She is likely to be one of the saints who has become confused with the old gods, that is, a real martyr's story has been embellished with that particulars of an old myth. A Slavic moon goddess was apparently known as Orsel.
Helen Farias, founder of The Beltane Papers, proposes that Ursula was originally the German bear goddess, Orsel, and conjectures that her companions are the stars surrounding the constellation of the Bear, Ursa Major, the great She-Bear known to us as the Plough or Dipper (Farias, Helen, ‘The TBP Lunar-Solar Festival Calendar,’ The Beltane Papers, Issue 3, Beltane, 1993). The bear goddess was known to the Greeks as Artemis (daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo) and in China as Matsu Po, Queen of Heaven and the Sea. According to one source, one of Artemis's frequent animal incarnations was the Great She-bear (constellation Ursa Major), ruler of the stars and protectress of the axis mundi, Pole of the World. The Helvetian (Swiss) tribes around what is now Berne, worshipped her as the She-Bear, and she is still their heraldic arms. Berne, in fact, means ‘She-bear’, just as Urus means ‘bear’. Sometimes the Helvetians called her Artio, shortened to ‘Art’ by the Celtic tribes who married her to the Bear-king, Arthur. As Artio's Lord of the Hunt, the medieval god of witches came to be called, ‘Robin son of Art’. In Irish, Art meant ‘God’, but its earlier meaning was ‘Goddess' – more specifically the Bear-goddess. Waverly Fitzgerald (School of the Seasons) writes that in Norway, on this day, no work was to be done that involved using the wheel, such as spinning, milling, and so on, “suggesting a fascinating connection with the goddess of Fate”. Saint Ursula is represented in Christian art as a princess holding an arrow, sometimes with maidens under her mantle; or an angel coming to her as she sleeps; or taking leave of her royal parents; in a boat surrounded by maidens and ecclesiastics, as she sails down the Rhine; or she and her companions massacred by archers. At Cologne, where Ursula is venerated, she is the patroness of unmarried women, drapers, and teachers; invoked for chastity and holy wedlock, and against the plague. In November, 1493, on his second voyage, Columbus discovered a large island surrounded by an archipelago. He named the largest island Saint Ursula, and the others he called the Once Mil Vigines (the 11,000 Virgins.) They are still known today as the Virgin Islands. Appropriately enough, Saint Ursula's Day is a holiday in the British Virgin Islands. (Info courtesy of Wilson's Almanac - http:// |

PAGANISM IN AMERICA - LADY LIBERTY.
Did Frédéric Bartholdi really make the statue in image of his mother? Could paganism had influence his design? Something to think about.

While Halloween is a modern American name invented by Candy companies, to make a fortune off of children who nag their parents into taking them trick or treating, it does stem from an Occult source. There are many festivals of the dead all over the world on different dates, but Halloween mostly stems from Samhain, the Celtic festival of the dead and New Year that is celebrated in October. It is also called Ancestor night, since the spirit of the dead ancestors rise on this night. It should be noted however, that certain holidays like Samhain are never celebrated on the same days, the day changes acc
How to Get Lucky
It is possible to change your luck. Perhaps you have experienced a string of unfortunate events lately? Or maybe you keep losing out on opportunities? It could be that you have always viewed yourself as an unlucky person. No matter what your reason is for looking into luck spells, there is a way to improve your circumstances.
Luck spells are one of the most common spells performed. They can help increase luck in areas of love, money, health, and virtually any other part of your life. Whatever you wish for; a luck spell can assist you in attaining your goal.
Envision It
Getting lucky can be a simple process – it does not require a lot of money or effort on your part. What it does require however, from the onset, is a change in mindset. You must think positive thoughts and view yourself as a lucky person. It is a personal experience, that is, the process that helps your luck improve may not be the same as that of your neighbor’s. However, as your luck increases, you may notice the life of your loved ones improving. Good luck can spread like the ripples of a stone dropped into a pond.
Good Luck Charms
Luck spells come in many forms. The simplest way to improve your luck is to add good luck charms in your home, place one in your car, and wear one on your person. Charms can be something as obvious as a horseshoe or a four leaf clover, and it can also be a personal item that you believe to be lucky.
A good luck charm should be placed at the entrance of your home so that anyone coming into your house will be blessed with good fortune. This symbol can also serve as a beacon, summoning positive energies towards your living space. If you place a particular charm in your car or wallet, good luck follows you where ever you go, influencing the life of other people that you encounter in your path.
Lucky Animals
Many of nature’s creatures are believed to be symbols of good luck - bats, cats, salamanders, fish, unicorns, and other animals. However, you should not use or sacrifice a live animal when performing any good luck spell; the use of an image is more merciful and will suffice. A candle in the shape of your preferred good luck animal is most efficient when spell working.
Creating a Luck Spell
With the oil of a beneficial herb such as rosemary, dandelion, clover, or spearmint, anoint a candle (preferably one in the shape of your lucky animal). It is also advantageous to place a charm inside the candle or next to it. Light the candle every evening for seven nights in a row, seven being a lucky number. On the last evening, let the candle burn all the way to the end, and then bury its remnants. Thereafter, place the charm that has been permeated with the candle’s scent in a meaningful place in your home, or carry it on your person.
Anyone can change their luck. A positive attitude and a little focus on good luck spells can make a big difference in your life.
