The shoreline of the lake, caked with brimstone and ash, cracked beneath streams of lava as they added yet another layer to its banks. The sky, filled with crimson anger, offered no comfort. The clouds expressed their fury as the angel flew beneath them.
This was the hell he had cho
sen to enter. Every being as far as his eyes could see had been condemned. They had failed in life—but he had not. He had asked to be sent here. He had even begged for the right. He was willing to sacrifice everything for the privilege of enduring the sounds of gnashing teeth, cries of regret, moans of anguish and wails of despair.
Beneath the angel’s feet, the lake boiled as rancid waves rolled toward the shore—waves that had been created by the tears of the damned—those who had chosen the wrong path. As he hovered above its surface, the smell of tormented flesh punished his nostrils, and the arms of the doomed were extended in hope. They desperately wanted to be pulled free of their misery, and they pleaded to be spared. But the pain of these dejected souls was not the reason he had come. He was here for only one—one who did not deserve an existence so vile.
Lightning arced across the blood-red sky and struck the top of the angel’s wings. The pain consumed his countenance as he turned to address his brethren who were rapidly approaching. “He’s angry with us, brothers!” he shouted, ensuring he could be heard over the sounds of the suffering. “Once we enter, we join the condemned!” He pointed down at the faces of the damned as both of his brothers hovered beside him. “To find the door, we must first share in their suffering!”
The second angel cringed at the thought. “I’m with you, brother! But are you sure you want to do this? Are you sure the door will be there?”
Irritated, the third angel responded, “Of course, he is! That much was promised to us!”
The lead angel reached out and placed a hand on each of his brothers’ shoulders. Their golden armor reflected the ominous glow of the liquid bastille beneath them as they rose to a height that allowed for more intimate conversation. They spoke amidst the thunder and lightning. “If you’re going to change your minds, you must do it now. But if you stay, your sacrifice won’t be forgotten.”
The second angel frowned. “You waste your breath.” He waited for a clap of thunder to subside and then continued. “I’ve never turned my back on you, and I won’t start now.”
“Nor have I!” the third angel concurred.
The brothers embraced, and then the third angel questioned, “I don’t understand your mind! Do you really believe she’s worth the torment we’re about to endure? You know she betrayed you!”
The lead angel’s eyes squinted as a bolt of lightning passed between them. He spoke once the rumbling stopped. “You know it wasn’t her fault!”
The second angel shook his head. “I don’t believe that! She made her choice, and that choice wasn’t you!”
“What would you have me do?” the lead angel rebutted. “My heart won’t allow me to abandon her!”
The third angel crossed his arms and grasped his bracers. “If I’m to suffer, I won’t save only her! We’ll need subjects to rule since we’ll no longer be restricted by his laws.”
“Agreed,” the second angel asserted. “We should save them all. They’ll serve us eagerly because they were spared.”
The lead angel nodded, “Very well then. It appears the moment has come.” He spread his scorched wings to their fullest extent, and with a mighty thrust, he ascended higher into the fractured sky. “Follow me, brothers!”
When the trio was high enough to see the vastness of the misery that stretched even beyond the lake, they shared only a glance before they folded their wings and descended.
They punched through the clouds as they rocketed toward the impetuous sea and impaled its surface. Tidal waves, hundreds of feet tall and filled with the cries of the flailing, erupted in every direction as the angels plummeted into the bowels of the inferno.
Instantly, they were engulfed by translucent forms and figures of every shape and size. Some were apparitions of what they once were, while others were clearly visible down to the hair, fur, scars and blemishes that covered their bodies during their mortal lives.
As the angels swam deeper into the abyss, souls scattered in every direction. It was as if they were afraid of experiencing greater pain because of their intrusion. But no matter how many beings fled, a far greater number gave chase. They fought, scratched, tugged and pulled at one another for the right to touch them. For the damned, the touch of an angel was a reminder—a fleeting sensation and a taste of everything good they had lost.
The brothers pushed through the massing souls, hurling the opposition aside as they continued their grisly dive. With no end in sight, a new presence emerged, one that absorbed light and had no discernible shape. Trapped at the center of this mass, the object of the lead angel’s affection lay dormant, having succumbed to her fate.
The pain that consumed the woman’s being was evident as the angels approached. She looked up. Her eyes fell upon the love she had rejected, and a resurgence of hope appeared on her face. “You’ve come for me! Is it really you?

I love the Christmas Eve services and the traditions that go along with them. In our church, it means lighting candles and passing them symbolically from one person to another. As I envisioned this tradition on canvas, I began to imagine that in an ideal world the Christmas Eve service would happen in a country chapel along a snowy wooded lane.
I envision this painting as the first in a series of three Christmas Chapels, each taking their inspiration from a classic Christmas carol. My prayer is that this series will give each of us a chance to rekindle the simple joys of the Christmas season.

4 eggs
2/3 cup water
2/3 cup thawed lemonade concentrate
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
* CANDY:
1 cup light corn syrup
2/3 cup sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons lemon extract
1/8 teaspoon yellow food coloring
* LEMON FILLING:
2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
2 packages (3 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup lemon curd
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
* CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:
2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup lemon curd
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 cups confectioners' sugar
Yellow edible glitter
* Directions:
In a large bowl, beat the cake mixes, eggs, water, lemonade concentrate, butter and lemon peel. Transfer to three greased and floured 9-in. round baking pans. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely.
Meanwhile, line three greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pans with parchment paper; set aside.
In a large heavy saucepan, combine corn syrup and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cover and cook for 3 minutes to dissolve sugar crystals. Uncover and cook, without stirring, until a candy thermometer reads 300° (hard-crack stage).
Remove from the heat; stir in lemon extract and food coloring (keep face away from mixture as flavoring is very strong). Immediately pour into prepared pans forming small zigzag shapes. Let cool completely.
For filling, beat cream in a small bowl until soft peaks form; set aside. In another bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Beat in the confectioners' sugar, lemon curd and lemon peel. Fold in whipped cream.
Place one cake layer on a serving plate; spread with 1 cup filling. Repeat. Top with remaining cake layer.
For frosting, in a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, lemon curd, vanilla and salt until smooth. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar. Frost top and sides of cake. Break candy into shards; insert into frosting forming rays of sunlight. Sprinkle cake with edible glitter. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 16 servings.
Editor's Note: We recommend that you test your candy thermometer before each use by bringing water to a boil; the thermometer should read 212°. Adjust your recipe temperature up or down based on your test.

Today's Pagan Pretty is a handmade MANDRAKE DOLL by "The Fairy Odd Mother" aka Champagne Shanes (my family owns two from this maker - we vouch for their complete adorableness!). The seller offers small and large versions - and each one is a bit different from the next. They are adorable little creatures that look like something straight out of Pan's Labyrinth!

In the language of flowers, the red poinsettia symbolizes "be of good cheer." I assign the planetary association of the Sun and the element of Fire to this native Central American plant. As December begins, we can liven up our homes with a live plant to help celebrate the winter holidays.
The plant can be enchanted to banish the blues, and to radiate out cheer and happiness with the following flower fascination.
"With the power of the waning Moon, I banish the blues,
Now I quickly bring forth good cheer and happiness so true.
With a touch of color magic, now brighten up these days,
Be leaf and flower, change moods in the best possible way."
Place the poinsettia plant in a prominent place, keep it well cared for, and enjoy the magic!

A silver fairy flowered
Upon a pale, pale ray
When grey evoked the shadows
And dark invoked the day
A tear of silence slivered
Across the pall of time
The voice of sadness shivered
Still, light was in the song.

Good Morning LGBT News Fans! Have a sweet day!
Recently I was contacted by a family member of my husbands to become friends on facebook. I quickly accepted and sent them a note saying welcome and how nice it was to hear from them and so on. Well within about an hour, they had checked out my page, removed themselves from my friends list and you guessed it, blocked me. You would think after 56 years people would not surprise me… but they do. The
y surprise me and sometimes disappoint me.
Maybe it is the time of year. When everyone is talking about peace on earth and good will to man… A little good will to Witch’s, Wiccans and Pagans would be nice. Because these people who close the door on others because they just really don’t know who we are because of fear or preconceived ideas. Really miss out on some people who could be great friends and family blessings. So to all of these family members, possible friends and those who are just afraid. I share these ideas and ask you to reconsider all you lose when you walk away from others without giving them a change. * Please Think Before You Walk Away There are so many things you miss in your life when you turn your back on friends and family because they are different then you. Because they see the world, religion and life perhaps in a different way than you do. Because they are Witches, Wiccans & Pagans by whatever name they are proud to be called. By turning your back on all those who would be your friend and or your family; you miss out on so much. 1.) You missed out on having someone who sees the pain in your eyes while everyone else still believes the smile on your face. Someone who won’t run from you waiting for you to get over it. They will be there to help you thought it. 2.) You pushed away someone who cares because they care about you for the person you are. Not for what they can get out of you. For they know true friendships is made up of balance, a ‘give and take’ on both sides. 3.) You said no to having someone in your life who would be there for you when you needed them. You would not have to ask them for their time, they would have given it freely and out of caring. 4.) You would not let someone in your life who say things so differently. Even though they just want to share life with you not control it. The good and bad, the highs and lows. 5.) You closed your heart to someone you could talk too, openly whenever you needed them. Someone who would not become insecure or resent you or be jealous, when you share what is truly going on in your life. 6.) You blocked the door on having someone in your life who will accept you for who you are. Never trying to change you into someone else. People know when they are not accepted and it hurts. Real family and real friends love you for who you are, not for who they think you should be. 7.) You said NO to having a person in your life who you could call on when you were down or feeling bad. Someone who would drop by just to say hello, and cheer you up. Someone who would bring you that cup of soup when you had a cold. Or that person who will come over with movies, popcorn and tissue just because you need to cry. 8.) You missed out on having a true friend to be their with you as your family grew. Someone who knew all the struggles you had overcame to make it where you are now. 9.) You turned from that someone who would have said, “come stay with me until you are on your feet again” or “Let me help.“ The someone who you could have counted on when sick or in the hospital to visit you and never let you be alone when down. 10.) You walked away from that family and that friend who wanted to share with you their life. Share with you as their children grew in both the pains of birth and life. So please, do not put up the walls of predigest because of who you think others are or how they believe. Don’t blindly through away a chance for friendships and family just because of fear. Because, until you open your eyes and your hearts you will never see the possibilities each bring within your life. We are Witches, Wiccans and Pagans who are freely giving you our open hands and hearts, if only you will receive them. *Please feel free to share with anyone. Blessed be in love and peace, Lady Abigail |
